CLEARFIELD, Utah (AP) -- A man whose laptop was stolen was arrested after police recovered the computer and said they found child pornography.

Dale Newland, 22, was charged Wednesday with three counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.

"We brought Mr. Newland in the other day and asked him about it," said Greg Krusi, Clearfield's assistant police chief. "He denied that he was the one who downloaded them."

Newland's apartment was burglarized by a juvenile last May, Krusi said. Police recovered the computer days later.

"The detective checked the computer to make certain it was the same one," Krusi said. "When he turned it on, it didn't take too long before he realized there was child porn."

The FBI determined the pictures were downloaded from a Web site before the theft, Krusi said.

Newland was being held in the Davis County Jail.

In another case also investigated by Clearfield police, an Ogden man was recently charged with possessing child pornography, more than a year after he abandoned a laptop computer in his former apartment.
