October 15th, 2009 @ 8:39pm

SALT LAKE CITY -- The Mormon Tabernacle Choir announced Thursday that singer-songwriter Natalie Cole and two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning author David McCullough will join the choir and Orchestra at Temple Square for this year's Christmas concerts, titled "The Wondrous Gift of Christmas."

"We couldn't be more delighted to have Ms. Cole and Mr. McCullough performing with us," Mack Wilberg, music director of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, said in a news release. "You take Natalie Cole's wonderful singing voice and David McCullough's tremendous talent for narration, add them to the choir, orchestra and bells and you end up with an unforgettable evening celebrating the Savior's birth. We are all very excited about these upcoming performances."

The concerts will be presented at the Conference Center on the following dates:

  • Thursday, Dec. 10 at 8 p.m.
  • Friday, Dec. 11 at 7:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, Dec. 12 at 7:30 p.m.

Both guest performers will also join the choir for its weekly broadcast of "Music and the Spoken Word" on Sunday, Dec. 13 at 9:30 a.m. in the Conference Center. A mini-Christmas concert will follow the broadcast.

Tickets to the performances are free, but because of the high demand for these tickets in years past they will be distributed through a random selection process.

If you're interested in getting tickets, you can register online at www.lds.org/events or by phone at 1-866-537-8457.
