LOGAN, Utah (AP) -- The woman who served as the state's first female fire marshal is retiring.

Liz Hunsaker retired Thursday after working for the Logan Fire Department since 1989. She headed the department's fire prevention division, oversaw fire inspections and coordinated public education.

Hunsaker says she's leaving the job to spend more time with her family and because it's time for someone new with fresh ideas to take over.

Hunsaker says she's proud of helping develop improved safety codes.

And even as she leaves her post, Hunsaker is reminding the public about free carbon monoxide and smoke detectors available to residents meeting certain income requirements.
