SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A United Express flight from Denver landed in Idaho because of a snowy runway Thursday at Salt Lake City International Airport, a spokeswoman said.
The plane's 49 passengers then took a 225-mile bus ride to Salt Lake City after landing in Twin Falls, Idaho, at 10:24 a.m., said Robin Urbanski, a spokeswoman for United Airlines.
The plane, which had four crew members, was diverted while snow was being removed from a runway, she said.
The pilot "did not know how long he would be in a holding pattern. It was in the best interest of our customers to land the plane," Urbanski said from Chicago.
United Express is a regional carrier for United Airlines. Flight 6697 was due in Salt Lake City at 9:31 a.m. Urbanski said no other United flights were affected by snowy conditions in Salt Lake City. Dida Hadley, an airport control center operations coordinator, said there were no other delays or diversions because of the weather.
