PROVO, Utah (AP) -- Utah County is spending money to encourage people to turn off the crock pot.

County commissioners agreed to contribute $54,000 for an advertising drive aimed at getting people to eat in restaurants. The Utah Restaurant Association plans to start a $1 million marketing campaign in March.

Utah County figures it will collect additional tax revenue without raising taxes.

"I think it's one of the partnerships we need to embrace," Commissioner Gary Anderson said.

Restaurant sales taxes added up to $3.3 million for the county in 2005; $2.5 million from January through October 2006.

Ads will appear on television, radio and the sides of food-delivery trucks. The message: Build family camaraderie away from home and forget leftovers.

Salt Lake County is on board and other counties may follow.

"This is going to sort of open up Utah's restaurant secrets," said Melva Sine, president of the restaurant association. "I think it's something the entire country will pick up on."
