SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- The Salt Lake City Police Department is remembering an officer killed in the line of duty 74 years ago.
The department says Officer Blaine L. Baxter was killed in a motorcycle accident while enforcing speed limits in Salt Lake City on Sept. 4, 1935. That was 74 years ago Friday.
The department says 28-year-old Baxter saw a vehicle speeding that day and left in pursuit. A vehicle turned in front of him at an intersection and Baxter lost control of his motorcycle.
He crashed into the wall of a building, suffered a broken neck and died at a local hospital.
Baxter left behind a wife and two children. He is buried at the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
