LAYTON -- A 3-year-old girl was hit by a mail truck in Layton and flown to Primary Children's Medical Center.

Around 12:45 p.m. police say the toddler wandered into the street and was hit by the mail carrier.

The carrier had just made a delivery on Amethyst Street and was moving to the next house going 5 to 10 miles per hour.

The carrier said he felt a bump, stopped the vehicle, found the toddler and went to find help.

"The mailman had brought her up to my door because he couldn't find help and he didn't have a cell phone," said Stephanie Anderson.

She said she was panicked at first but just took the little girl from the mailman and laid her on the grass. She then called 911 while the mailman went to try and find the girl's family.

Family members were located quickly and went straight to Anderson's house.

"You know, I just told them what had happened, and I was still on the phone with 911 and just 911 had told me not to let anybody move her," Anderson said.

A medical helicopter landed at Central Davis Junior High School and took the toddler to the hospital.

The toddler had no injuries except for a cut on the head and some road rash.
