HOLLADAY -- Family and friends paid their last respects today to Brian Cardall, the man who died after he was tased by police.

Brian Cardall died on June 9, the same day police near Hurricane used a Taser to subdue him during what his family described as a mental health episode.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office says they have gleaned some new details from the results of Cardall's autopsy, but they are not releasing what those new details are at this time.

Monday, at the Valley View Stake Center in Holladay, friends and family chose to reflect on how Cardall lived rather than how he died.

A sister-in-law eulogized Cardall by describing him as an accomplished science scholar and devoted father who adored his wife and looked forward to the birth of a second daughter in September.

Cardall, 32, served an LDS mission in Spain, held a bachelor and master's degree from Utah State University, and was working on a doctorate at Northern Arizona University. A professor remembered him as one of the most promising in his field.

Many of his friends recalled his love of the outdoors. "He loved nature, loved science, loved everything to do with the outdoors," said one man.

Cardall had many talents, according to his family, including an ability to perform his own music on the guitar and a love of landscape painting and mountain climbing.
