LOGAN -- A man is amazed that his LDS temple recommend was ridiculed by a police officer who booked him into jail. The arrest was over an innocent paperwork mistake.
John Zeugschmidt, 23, was wrongfully arrested after being pulled over for speeding in Logan Canyon in March. He says when he was being booked into jail, a sheriff's deputy went through his wallet and made fun of what he found.
He says the deputy pulled out Zeugschmidt's LDS temple recommend and then said condoms would go great with it.
Sheriff spokesman Lt. Brian Locke told the Herald Journal the deputy responsible for booking Zeugschmidt was Sgt. Troy Liquin. He has apparently now written a letter of apology.
Zeugschmidt says he was shocked by the lack of professionalism. Zeugschmidt talked to KSL Newsradio Thursday morning. Play the audio to the right to hear that.
Locke told the Herald Journal his department felt the dialogue wasn't as "appropriate or professional as it needed to be."
A paperwork error over proof of vehicle insurance led to the arrest. The case now has been dismissed.
