BRIGHAM CITY, Utah (AP) -- Thousands of tundra swans from California are in Utah, taking a break from their journey to Canada and Alaska.
The swans are resting on receding ice in the marshes east of the Great Salt Lake. Over the weekend the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge held its annual Tundra Swan Day.
The swans, known as whistlers, visit the refuge as they travel from the Sacramento-San Joaquin delta to Canadian and Alaskan nesting grounds.
The white birds are distinguished by a little yellow stripe that arcs forward from their eyes.
