SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Republicans in the Utah Legislature have agreed on a $20 increase in vehicle registration fees.
House Republicans voted for the registration fee increase on Monday. Senate Republicans took the same action last week.
A vehicle registration fee increase would generate about $50 million a year. Gov. Jon Huntsman included the increase in his budget proposal.
While registration costs vary, the state currently assess a $21 fee on most standard cars.
Rep. Mike Noel, R-Kanab, says he thinks Utah residents will be pleased if lawmakers can balance the budget while raising the registration fee by only $20.
