Utah unemployment claims have nearly tripled in one year. Now some wonder how much cushion there is in the state's unemployment fund.
Utah Workforce Services' unemployment insurance director says there is currently $800 million in the state's unemployment insurance pool.
"Last week we paid $11 million," insurance director Bill Starks said. But he says that compares to $4 million paid out in unemployment one year ago last week.
But Starks says don't worry: The insurance well is not about to run dry. It is replenished with quarterly tax contributions from your employer.
