(KSL News) Students at a Tooele elementary school are celebrating a reading program that's so successful they wrote a tribute song.
In an assembly today, the students sang, "The road to success is where I have to do my best!"
The Ken Garff Road to Success reading program encourages students to read by offering incentives: more reading means more opportunity to win new bikes, donated by Wal-Mart.
This program is in more than 200 Utah schools. Here at Northlake Elementary, the proof is in Jean Didericksen's class, where every student is reading at grade level. "In fact, there are a few who are above level, and that's just something every teacher dreams about is having their whole class on reading level," Didericksen said.
How's this for success: parents have had to ban reading after hours. "I even had to say to them that I won't give them any reading minutes after 9:00 [p.m.] because they have to go to sleep," Linnea Olcott said.
