(KSL News) It proved to be a deadly weekend on Utah's roads. Seven people have died in accidents since Friday.
Utah Highway Patrol troopers believe alcohol and speed were the cause of a fatal accident in Vernal Saturday night. Troopers say a truck was headed north on State Road 191 at about 100 miles an hour. The driver tried to take a turn too fast, prompting the truck to roll.
All three people inside were ejected, and the driver died at the scene. The other two were taken to the hospital, one in critical condition.
Then Sunday morning on State Route 191 about 8 miles north of Moab, a van crashed. The 45-year-old driver received minor cuts and was treated at the scene, but his mother, 70-year-old Brigada Alcaide, was killed. She was wearing a seatbelt. Troopers say the driver fell asleep at the wheel in that accident.
On Friday a California man died when he slammed head-on into a semi truck, while driving the wrong way on I-80.
Also on Friday, a Nibley couple and the daughter of their friends were killed when they were hit by a truck in Box Elder County.
Another person was killed in an accident Redwood Road on Friday night.
