Teen faces community service for fatal accident

(KSL News) A 15-year-old Saratoga Springs boy who hit and killed a 4-year-old boy has been ordered to perform 185 hours of community service.

The unlicensed teenager hit and killed Cooper Mardesich on Aug. 21 while driving his mother's minivan.

Mardesich was riding his bike when he was struck by the van. He was flown to the hospital where he later died.

Both the teenager and his mother, Regina Tausinga, are charged with negligent homicide and had no proof of insurance. Tausinga is also charged with allowing an unlicensed driver to drive. She will be in court on Dec. 10.
