PROVO, Utah (AP) -- An actor who starred in several Mormon-themed films has pleaded guilty to a reduced theft charge.

Michael Birkeland pleaded guilty in 4th District Court Wednesday to a class A misdemeanor for the theft of a computer from the Utah Valley University campus. Birkeland was arrested in July and was originally charged with a third-degree felony.

Birkeland, 37, starred in the films "Singles Ward" and "Sons of Provo."

Police said Birkeland was a guest attending an art class in April and started using a computer belonging to the professor. Police say that when he left that day, the computer was missing.

He will be sentenced on Nov. 19.
