(KSL News) Police in Arizona are trying to find out why someone murdered a state corrections officer and Utah native.
Bradley Gerrard had worked for the Arizona Department of Corrections since 2004.
Last Saturday, officers say Gerrard had family coming to stay with him and went to a store to get an air mattress. Later, police got a call of a body on the road. Officers say it was Gerrard.
Police believe someone shot him then stole his car, ditched it and set it on fire. Police say they have no leads.
Gerrard, who lived in Clearfield, leaves behind a wife and child.
"There is no reason no reason to kill him. He is not a weak man by any means. He would have given up the vehicle or anything," Gerrard's wife said.
Gerrard's brother-in-law, Wade Roberts, said, "Anyone who knows Brad, no one in the world could have a vendetta against Brad. He is the softest guy in the world."
Police say they have no reason to believe Gerrard's job as a prison guard led to his murder.
