The chairman of the Republican National Committee is in Utah today trying to rally support for the McCain-Palin ticket.

There's little doubt over who will win the presidential race in Utah, and that may be why the GOP National Committee leader stopped in to what he called the reddest of red states. Mike Duncan made a visit in Provo today to help gather support for a new call center which will be used to promote the GOP ticket.

Republicans are hoping Utah volunteers will make phone calls to voters in other western states, where polls show the presidential election will be close. They're hoping to win over undecided voters. It's being billed as a grassroots effort to help push John McCain into the White House.

We asked Duncan about tomorrow night's vice presidential debate between Sen. Joe Biden and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and how Gov. Palin's performance could affect the outcome of the election.

He said, "She's been a decision maker since she's been in public office, and people are going to learn more about her tomorrow night, so it's important. But at the end of the day, people make their decision about this great leadership contest when they look at the two candidates for president, and I believe that's the starkest contrast we've had in my voting lifetime between John McCain and Barack Obama, and I believe John McCain is going to be elected."

Duncan has been busy traveling from state to state, saying John McCain's economic plan is the right way to go. "Restoring confidence in the system. He understands that we've got to do that first. And then to make this an investment, as opposed to a bailout," he said.

But will Utah get a campaign visit from either John McCain or Sarah Palin before election day? When asked, Duncan told us he does not know the candidates' schedules. He says the candidates are focused on a national election and will continue taking their message of change across the country. So for those hoping for a visit from either member of the ticket, it's probably not going to happen.
