(KSL News) Biologists say the dreaded zebra mussels may have entered Utah waters.

The Division of Wildlife Resources sent samples from 42 places to a lab. Three samples contained what looked like zebra or quagga mussels. They are from Pelican Lake, Midview Reservoir and Red Fleet Reservoir, all in northeastern Utah.

However, biologists are waiting for DNA test results to know for sure. That could take a couple of weeks.

Some good news: samples from Bear Lake, Flaming Gorge and Lake Powell did not show any evidence of quagga mussels.

Biologists say the clam-like species can damage ecosystems and displace native fish.
