A South Jordan family grieves the loss of their son who died serving in Iraq. The family still awaits more details about how their soldier died.
Pvt. Jordan Thibeault, 22, died Friday at a military base in Iraq. The Department of Defense reports the soldier died from injuries sustained in a noncombat related incident.
Neighbors of the family in South Jordan lined the streets with American flags. They also planted 21 flags in the Thibeault family's yard to symbolize a 21 gun salute.
On a sign hung on the front gate were the words, "We can't thank you enough ... for making the ultimate sacrifice for us and our country."
Army officials delivered the news to the family Friday and planned to return with more information for the family tonight. Family members say they want to know more about how Jordan Thibeault died before they talk to us.
The Defense Department says Thibeault died at Forward Operating Base Hammer in Iraq. Thibeault was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 6th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division headquartered in Baumholder, Germany.
Defense Department numbers show that in July U.S. forces suffered more noncombat casualties in Operation Iraqi Freedom than combat casualties. In that month, six U.S. troops died in noncombat incidents while five troops were killed in combat.
