Some students in Draper are reaching out to their counterparts in Peru by writing and illustrating books.
At Willow Springs Elementary, students have been working in groups to write, illustrate and publish 160 books. Lower grades deal with numbers and colors; others talk about Utah, while others tell stories.
"There's a fifth grade class, and they have a story about aliens that are coming to earth and they're getting into all these little projects when they come to earth," explained Principal Sharyle Karren.
She says she got the idea after speaking with some friends in Peru about needs there. She and others will travel to an area north of Lima next month to deliver the professionally published books.
