The switch to electronic voting in Salt Lake County could turn out to be an Election Day curse. That warning came today from the county clerk.
Election Day could strain voters' patience. Salt Lake County Clerk Sherrie Swensen warns that very long lines are expected.
"We have less machines than we did in the 2004 election with increased voter population and an expected high turnout," she said.
Swensen says there are at least 1,500 fewer voting machines.
"If we can get 20 percent of the public to vote early, then we're going to be OK," she said.
The county is setting up 16 early voting spots to help reduce the anticipated long lines.
She says the electronic machines are expensive: $2,700 compared to $49 for the old punch card system.
