(KSL News) Weber County commuters will soon enjoy something they've been waiting a couple of years for: a lot less road construction.

The Utah Department of Transportation says it has substantially completed the I-15 New Ogden Weber Expansion project. The project added lanes to the freeway in Weber County, giving commuters more room to move. Twenty-four bridges were replaced with wider, modern structures, and six interchanges were reconstructed to allow safer merging.

Lt. Gov. Gary Herbert says the changes give Utah a transportation network that will help the state's economy to grow. "People will have jobs. Individuals and families can pay their own bills, government will have revenue streams to pay the bills for the services that the people want have done, without having to raise taxes," he said.

The project totaled $260 million but came in under budget and on time.
