SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Film Center has set up an online fundraiser to help pay for a fire that destroyed the nonprofit's downtown office last week.
Items lost in the March 29 fire include "film equipment, computers, appliances, office supplies, banners, films (and) paper files," center officials said in a prepared statement Monday.
The fire ravaged much of the building at 122 S. Main after part of a flourescent light fixture overheated, according to the Salt Lake City Fire Department. Other businesses in the building returned the same day, but what remained of the Utah Film Center was declared structurally unsafe.
The Utah Film Center is aiming to raise $150,000 through a GoFundMe page put online Saturday.
"As a nonprofit organization, we complied with all best practices and had insurance. However, our losses are minimally covered," center officials said in the statement.
