(KSL News) Southbound Bangerter Highway at 11400 South reopened around 11 a.m. It was closed for more than five hours after a semi pulling two belly-dump trailers rolled.
Sheriff's deputies say the driver was going too fast, trying to beat a red light as he turned left onto 12600 South.
One of the trailers he was pulling rolled and hit a power pole. That knocked out all the traffic lights at the intersection, causing major delays. Deputy Levi Hughes, with the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office, said, "This is a perfect example of the kind of costs and time associated with running a red light."
The driver suffered only minor injuries. He will be cited for causing the accident.
This is the fifth semi rollover we've seen in the past two weeks.
The first happened July 9 when a Cadillac hit a semi on Interstate 80 at 700 East. The Cadillac ended up against the barrier almost over the edge.
Two days later, a truck driver fell asleep at the wheel on I-80 near Magna and woke up as his semi started to drift off the road. He overcorrected and rolled.
The very next day, the brakes on a semi overheated and failed in Cedar Canyon, near Cedar City, causing the truck to topple and spill its load.
Then on Monday, a Fed-Ex truck was driving too fast through the construction zone on I-215 at about 2200 North. One of its trailers overturned.
Amazingly no one was seriously injured in any of the accidents.
