Team coverageSurveillance video catches two armed robbery suspects in action, and police believe the men on that video hit two businesses within minutes of each other.
The men robbed a Subway restaurant near 4100 South and Redwood Road last night. They didn't try to hide their faces, so the surveillance cameras caught good images of them.
"We've went to great lengths to try and protect and keep our employees and customers safe. We've put in numerous cameras in all of our stores now," said Robert Sherwood, a representative for Subway of Utah.
Video from those cameras may be what leads police to these two armed robbers. "Somebody out there knows who these guys are, and they may have seen them together," said Sgt. Rosie Rivera, spokeswoman for the Taylorsville Police Department.
Just before 10:00 last night, two men walked in to the Subway and immediately announced their intentions. On the video, you can hear one suspect at the counter. "This is a robbery," he calmly says. "Give me all your money."
One of the men lingers in the back while the other approaches the workers. You can't see it in the video, but police say he showed a handgun. The men then left with only about $20. "They openly displayed their weapons, which is a big concern because they're comfortable with firearms," Rivera said.
Police believe the same two men hit a Little Caesars restaurant near 3900 West and 5400 South 15 minutes later because the descriptions of the suspects are the same. "So far, nobody's been hurt. But [with] these kind of robberies, at some point, somebody's going to get hurt, and we want to stop these guys before that occurs," Rivera said.
The suspects are described as wearing denim shirts and baseball caps. One is in his 40s, around 5 feet 7 inches tall, with tattoos across his chest and neck. The other is in his 30s and around 6 feet tall.
Taylorsville police also had another robbery Sunday night at the Sconecutter on Redwood Road. While officials haven't confirmed whether the robbery is connected to those yesterday, they do describe the suspect as a man in his mid- to late-40s with tattoos on his chest and arms.
Other police agencies are also looking into several robberies with similar descriptions: one at a West Jordan dry cleaning business and two others in the Salt Lake area.
A Famous Footwear in Draper was also robbed last night by a man in his 50s. Police say when a salesperson asked him if he needed help, he lifted his shirt, showing a handgun, and led her to the cash register. He got away with an undisclosed amount of cash, but police have yet to make any connections with the other robberies.
Whether all of these robberies are connected or not, Subway is pleading for the public's help to capture these suspects. "Please just help us apprehend these people. It's scaring the tar out of our employees let alone our customers as well," Sherwood said.
