KEARNS — A fight Wednesday between two men who had only been roommates for a couple of days resulted in one man being stabbed multiple times and another being arrested.

The incident happened just after 10 p.m. near 5137 South and 4800 West. Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal said several adults live in the house where rooms are rented out.

Two men, who had been sharing a room for only a couple of days, had an argument over an undisclosed issue Wednesday night, Hoyal said. The disagreement led to a physical fight, during which one man stabbed the other multiple times in the chest and back with a knife, he said.

The victim was stabbed once near his collarbone and had a lung punctured, according to a Salt Lake County Jail report. He then was stabbed in the back and had his other lung punctured.

The 34-year-old victim was taken to a local hospital in serious condition.

Fily Esparza Alacla, 22, was arrested for investigation of aggravated assault and domestic violence. Alacla called 911 after he stabbed the man and stayed on the phone with dispatchers until police arrived, the report states. Police said he told them he tried to help the man after he stabbed him, but the victim didn't want his help.
