(KSL News) With prices for about everything going up, many Utah parents are having to make tough choices about their children's summer activities.

According to a Dan Jones poll for KSL-TV and the Deseret News, just under half (49 percent) of Utah families say they're cutting back on non-essential items.

The poll also shows that the Salt Lake County Parks and Recreation Department has reported drops in some of their programs: T-ball is down 10 percent, soccer is down 23 percent, and enrollment in dancing, gymnastics and other programs is down 45 percent.

Chris Ashton, a mother of six who knows these pressures all to well, and Ann House, a professor of debt education for Utah State University's extension program, joined us to discuss this issue on Talking Point tonight.
