MURRAY — A motorcycle officer from the Murray Police Department is recovering after he was hit by a car Monday.

The officer was riding west on 5900 South about 3:40 p.m. when he was hit by a woman in a Ford Mustang turning left off of Sandford Drive, Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal said.

Both the officer and the woman were transported to Intermountain Medical Center. The officer was originally listed in serious condition but was improving, Hoyal said. The woman, who is in her 50s, showed no sign of impairment.

"This was just an unfortunate accident. The driver didn't see the motorcycle and made a left turn right in front of the officer," Hoyal said.

The road was closed briefly as an accident reconstruction team investigated the crash, Hoyal said. Unified police was asked to investigate the crash because it involved an officer.

The crash could potentially be screened for criminal charges, Hoyal said.
