SALT LAKE CITY — The United States Postal Service is extending Saturday hours in 36 Utah post offices during the holiday season, with eight offices opening the two Sundays before Christmas.
Between Logan and Provo, most of the large post offices will extend their hours to be open from 9-4 p.m. Dec. 6, 13 and 21, according to a news release.
The Murray Branch, Sugarhouse Station, West Valley Branch and the main post offices in Bountiful, Layton, Clearfield, Ogden and Sandy will be open Dec. 14 and 21 from 10-2 p.m.
“Extending retail hours and adding Sunday hours will help our customers get their packages in the mail at a time that is convenient for them,” Salt Lake City Postmaster Steve Chaus said in the news release. “It’s also a good time for customers who have been notified to pick up a package.”
Although the additional weekend hours will be available, Chaus encouraged customers to ship packages from home on the USPS website.
“Customers not only receive savings off retail prices when they print their own labels with postage online, but time and gas as well — all traditionally in short supply during the holidays,” said Chaus. “Free Priority Mail Flat Rate boxes and free package pickup make online shipping a snap.”
The USPS estimates it will mail 15.5 billion cards, letters and packages this holiday season, including 470 million packages — 12 percent more than last year.
