TOOELE — UHP troopers say seat belts helped save the lives of three people when the car in which they were riding rolled nearly 75 feet down a hill.
The crash happened just inside the Tooele County line on I-80 east around 11 p.m. Wednesday.
The driver told troopers she swerved to miss a piece of tire that came off the vehicle in front of her. Her car then rolled several times down the embankment, coming to rest on its roof.
The interstate was shut down for about an hour as two medical helicopters landed at the scene.
“Alcohol is not suspected," said UHP Trooper Chris Lewis. "The driver said she swerved to miss debris that came off the car in front of her. With all this, seat belts did help prevent any life-threatening injuries.
The two passengers in the car were extricated and flown to University Hospital in serious condition. The driver was taken by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.
