HEBER CITY — Thieves struck an undercover SWAT vehicle Friday night in Heber City, making off with a police badge, an AR-15 style rifle, Glock pistol, body armor and more.
The culprits took $10,000 worth of SWAT uniforms, ammunition and several other kinds of police equipment, according to Heber City police officer Xela Thomas.
"This vehicle is nondescript; it's void of any police logos," Thomas said.
The thieves also burglarized another vehicle four houses away, and then stole a 1998 tan Toyota Corrolla with a red trunk and license plate number C791PC.
Both vehicles belong to Chris Torres.
"It's a safe neighborhood," Torres said. "Well, I thought it was, at least."
The truck was locked, but has faulty locks, he said. In addition to some bullets and tools in his bed, the thieves took his amplifier.
"I first noticed when I saw the cables hanging out, 'cause they're just plugged into my amp," Torres said.
He was so concerned about the truck, it took him a while to notice his car was gone.
"I work hard for my stuff," Torres said. "To get it stolen, it's not fair."
Police hope if they find Torres' stolen Corolla, they'll find the thieves too.
“These are brazen criminals we would like to stop quickly," said Heber Police Lt. Jason Bradley. "It’s important to find them and get the equipment back in the right hands.”
