WEST VALLEY CITY — West Valley City police are investigating a case in which an arrested man is cooperating with them but the victims are not.

Just after 1 a.m., officers spotted a black Honda Civic and a white Ford Explorer speeding recklessly out of the Extended Stay hotel parking lot, according to Sgt. Todd Gray of the West Valley City Police Department.

Police tried to pull over the driver of the Civic but he drove away, then stopped his car, got out and ran. He didn't get far before officers caught him.

They said he admitted that he and the driver of the Explorer had just committed a robbery at the hotel for a drug debt.

“They had actually stolen the black Honda Civic from the owner of the vehicle as collateral until that debt is paid. They supposedly had assaulted the occupants of the hotel room as well,” Gray said.

According to police, the people in the hotel room admitted the men had been there but denied a robbery took place.

The driver of the Civic, who police identified as Nicholas Anderson, was taken to the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of evading police, fleeing, and resisting arrest.
