Gene Kennedy reportingA rollercoaster weather pattern is hitting the entire state of Utah.

On 400 South in downtown Salt Lake City, it's 35 degrees outside. Last night, we were in the 70s. That big temperature drop hit all across the state, along with high winds, rain, and snow.

These days, Mother Nature can feel like a ride without all the excitement. Yesterday it was sunny and 80 degrees. Today there was snow at the state capitol, slick roads at the Salt Lake International airport and choppy waters on the Great Salt Lake, all accompanied by a 40-degree temperature drop.

Tabatha Worth, a student at the University of Utah, said, "I was laughing when I got out of school and saw the snow was coming down like a blizzard."

None of that was to be found in Central Utah. In the small town of Elsinore, in Sevier County, it was all about the wind. There was no severe damage, mostly small trees toppled in neighborhood yards, but a lot of dust in the air made for a murky view.

The high winds are bringing back memories of the Milford Flat fire. It's been almost a year since flames scorched 560 square miles, but today, dirt, dust, and ash was in the air thanks to 50-60 mile-an-hour wind gusts. So, wind in the south and snow in the north. Tabatha Worth said, "I'm new to Utah. I've never seen anything like it before."

She should probably get used to it, though. Many spring storms continue until May, and on rare occasions, until June. But as quickly as it comes, it can clear up.

The rain did let up this evening, but not before the mountains were once again blanketed with snow. And the rollercoaster of weather rides on.
