Tom Callan and AP reportingSeveral law enforcement agencies participated in a weekend raid that resulted in multiple arrests connected to a series of "dangerous robberies" that took place in the past year at stores and restaurants in the Salt Lake valley.

Officers searched eight residences and nine cars Saturday, seizing more than 20 firearms and arresting five Tongan Crip gang members and one Tongan Crip gang associate.

"This is very significant. We've had a number of violent aggravated robberies around the valley. It didn't look like they were going to stop any time soon," said Detective Jared Wihongi, spokesman for the Salt Lake City Police Department.

Police say the arrests may solve as many as 20 robberies including a July 24 robbery and shooting at a 7-Eleven,the Oct. 14 Rancheritos robbery, the Dec. 21 Gen X Clothing robbery, and a Chuck-A-Rama robbery on March 15, 2008.
