SALT LAKE CITY — Bowen may be a non-verbal communicator, but the 13 year old's smile more than makes up for it.

This week's Wednesday's Child, Bowen, also loves interacting with those around him.

"I've never been around him when hasn't been happy and smiling," said Marci Howey, his caseworker.

Bowen was born with Angelman Syndrome, which confines him to a wheelchair. Developmentally, he's around eight to ten months old.

"He's had a really hard life," Howey said. "He's gone through some big challenges."

Those challenges don't stop him from enjoying his life. In the four years since he entered the foster care system, he's brought love and joy to each home he has been in.

"His personality just lights up a room," Howey said. "I think he brings people together because he's just wonderful."

Bowen thrives at the school he attends and especially loves his swimming classes.

But behind the happy exterior there is a little boy who needs a home of his own.

"I just hope he can find permanency," Howey said. "A family the he can be with that will take care of him forever."
