SALT LAKE CITY — Four people were taken to the hospital after a truck collided with an SUV Thursday, police said.

A white F-350 was traveling eastbound on 3300 South when it struck an SUV turning left at 900 West on the passenger side, police said. Investigators said eyewitnesses told them the truck had the green light, but that it was traveling at a high rate of speed.

The truck rolled several times and collided with a UTA bus stop before coming to a rest on the lawn of the Unified Police Department, police said. There was no one at the bus stop at the time, according to investigators.

The two men inside of the truck crawled out of the windows of the vehicle and were transported to the hospital in critical condition, according to South Salt Lake police detective Gary Keller. The men were later reported to be in stable condition, but Keller said one man had serious upper body injuries.

He said the two women who were riding in the SUV were taken to the hospital in serious condition. Their condition was later upgraded to fair.

A road closure for 3300 South was announced just after 3 p.m. by the Utah Department of Transportation. The eastbound lanes are closed from 900 West to 700 West, officials said. Only the left lane of the westbound side is closed.

The eastbound lanes are expected to be closed until around 7 p.m. while detectives investigate the crash, police said.

More information will be added as it becomes available.
