WEST JORDAN — Police were searching Friday for the person who hit a 25-year-old man with their car, leaving him lying in the road with serious injuries.

Police identified the man as Mario Cisneros from Mexico and said he was in critical condition.

West Jordan police received a call around 1:45 a.m. when a passerby first saw a shoe and then a man in the road near 7300 South and Jordan Landing Boulevard, according to West Jordan Police Sgt. Joe Monson. Investigators are unsure how long the man had been in the road.

Police are now seeking the public's help in finding whomever hit Cisneros.

"It's very concerning to us that somebody can hit someone with a vehicle, then leave them in the middle of the road, hurt, and where they could be hit again," he said.

It appears as if a small passenger car hit the man while he was crossing the street.

"From the initial point of impact, it looked like he could have been knocked under or carried by the vehicle almost 100 feet," said Sgt. Dan Roberts with the West Jordan Police department.

The area where the man was hit was dark and the man was not in a crosswalk.

The driver who struck Cisneros would likely have noticed they hit him, and should have stopped, Monson said.

"There was an impact, possibly some front-end damage to the car, so they definitely know they hit somebody," he said.

Cisneros was taken to a local hospital.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 801-840-4000.
