ALPINE — A teenager is in critical condition after being thrown from an ATV Sunday, according to the Lone Peak Fire Department.
Two teenagers were riding on an ATV when they left the trail onto pavement and lost control, according to Batallion Chief Joe McRae. The accident occurred at around 3 p.m. at an off-road area near the end of Moyle Drive, he said.
“It appeared that the ATV got out of control and hit an embankment and threw them off," McRae said.
The teenage male who was driving the ATV was taken by Life Flight to the Utah Valley Regional Medical Center for head injuries, he said. A female teenager who was a passenger on the ATV was also thrown from the vehicle and had minor injuries but was not taken to the hospital, McRae said.
Neither of the teens were wearing helmets at the time of the accident, according to McRae.
The teens were thrown about 30 feet, he said. It was unclear whether speed may have been a factor in the accident, according to investigators.
