SALT LAKE CITY — Approximately 90,000 pounds of beef jerky products were recalled by a Utah company for misbranding and an undeclared allergen, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service announced Tuesday.
Prime Snax Inc., based in Salt Lake City, recalled the beef jerky products because they contained a known allergen, soy lecithin, that was not declared on the label, according to the FSIS.
Officials said the health risk is low. The jerky was produced before Feb. 2 and shipped to stores across the country.
The company provides jerky for multiple brands including Arizona Jacks, Desert Star, Southwest Trail, Terrell and Kettle Creek. A complete list of the products that were recalled is included at the bottom of this story.
The recalled products have the establishment number “EST. 18951” on the USDA mark of inspection and a date earlier than Aug. 11, 2015.
People who have questions about the recall can call Jackie Pappas at 801-977-0742.
An inspector found the problem during a label review, according to the statement. Officials said the company didn't realize soy lecithin needed to be declared on the label. It was used as a processing aid.
No one has contacted the company or FSIS about adverse reactions to eating the beef jerky, according to the FSIS.
People who have questions about the recall can call Jackie Pappas at 801-977-0742. The FSIS also offers a 24-hour service called "Ask Karen" where people can chat with a virtual representative about food safety.
