WEST VALLEY CITY — Police were questioning a man and woman after a standoff with a SWAT team Tuesday morning.
Just after 2 a.m., police responded to a call "of a suspicious circumstance" at a home near 4100 W. 3600 South, according to West Valley Police deputy chief Mike Powell. The caller told police they heard a woman crying and had seen a large flash.
Another neighbor told responding officers that they heard "some loud bangs" followed by silence, Powell said.
Officers tried without success to communicate with those inside the home.
"At one point they were attempting to make contact — an adult male walked past the window in the residence and just waved at officers," Powell said.
Officers were concerned about the possible shots fired in the home earlier, so they "retreated away to a safe distance" and called in a SWAT team to try and reason with the man in the home.
"The male refused any contact for a period of time. Ultimately we were able to make contact with the male via telephone," Powell said.
The man and an adult woman exited the residence and police detained them, he said. Investigators are determining what, if any, crimes occurred Tuesday morning.
