SALT LAKE CITY — The man who called himself a "fixer" for former Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff has bailed out of jail.
Timothy William Lawson, 49, posted his $250,000 bond and walked out of Salt Lake County Jail on Friday. Lawson faces multiple felony charges for retaliating against witnesses, witness tampering, obstructing justice, bribery, falsifying tax information to hide income, and failing to pay taxes.
Prosecutors allege Lawson used a friendship with Shurtleff — as well as his recently resigned successor, John Swallow — to influence others using intimidation and aggressive tactics. He remains a figure in the ongoing investigation into Shurtleff and Swallow.
Lawson came up with cash and collateral to back a portion of the large bail, less than 10 percent, according to Superior Bail Bonds. His next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 3.
