Sandra Yi reporting A teenager in Farmington woke up this morning to find a stranger in her bedroom. Now police are investigating.
The family believes the man got in through an unlocked back door, and they fear it may not have been his first time in their home.
John Vanweezep gets emotional when talking about what happened to his 14-year-old daughter.
"It's just not right, and it's obviously the working of somebody that's not running on all cylinders," he said.
At 1:30 a.m., the girl awoke in her bed to find a man leaning over her. When she cried out for her parents, the man ran downstairs and out the front door.
But the man left something that has the family and police scratching their heads: his size 10, white tennis shoes.
"And they were very close to her bed, just like he had kicked them off," Vanweezep said.
The shoes may be investigators' best clue because the teen wasn't able to get a good look at the man's face. Her father believes the man may have tried this before because he remembers hearing his front door closing in the middle of the night on Saturday.
"I thought it must have been just a very vivid dream, and now looking back, it wasn't a dream. It was the guy coming back for the first time," Vanweezep said.
Lt. Shane Whitaker, with the Farmington Police Department, said, "We're hoping that this is an isolated incident, that we can try to locate this individual and try to learn what's going on."

As for the family, they plan to install a security system.
