KEARNS — Police are looking for a man who fled the scene after allegedly stabbing his brother-in-law during an argument.

Police were called out at about 12:30 am Saturday to 5473 S 3960 West in Kearns on report of a stabbing, said Lt. Justin Hoyal of the Unified Police Department.

When officers arrived they learned that a 21-year-old male had been involved in an argument with his wife. During that argument, the wife's 20-year-old brother, Ismael Chaivez, got involved, and the husband and Chaivez began to argue themselves, Hoyal said.

Hoyal stated that during that argument, Chaivez tried to stab the victim with a cattle prod. The victim then left the residence, came back after a short period of time and the argument continued.

After the argument picked up again, Chaivez allegedly stabbed the victim in the "mid body section," Hoyal said.

The victim was transported to Intermountain Medical Center where he's in serious but stable condition.

Police believe Chaivez fled the scene in a black sedan with plans of leaving the state.
