SALT LAKE CITY — A man who apparently tried to get out of a minor traffic violation by allegedly flashing a police badge was arrested by a real officer Thursday.
A 25-year-old man was crossing the street about 2:30 p.m. near 400 West and 200 South against the light, subsequently blocking vehicles that were trying to make a left turn at the intersection, according to a Salt Lake County Jail report.
An officer in an unmarked police vehicle stopped and honked his horn at the man to speak to him about the pedestrian traffic violation. The man responded by pulling out "a gold badge attached to a leather holder hanging from a chain," the report states. The officer said the badge appeared to be a legitimate law enforcement badge.
The man then said something "unintelligible" to the real officer and kept walking, the report states.
The real officer arrested the man for investigation of impersonating a police officer and jaywalking.
