John Swallow lawyers: Impeachment proceedings not justified
Lawyers for embattled Attorney General John Swallow have sent a letter to the Utah Legislature saying impeachment proceedings against him are unwarranted.
"This discussion about impeachment is based on innuendo and unsupported allegations in the press from indicted and convicted felons and a few political enemies of Mr. Swallow," attorneys Rod Snow and Jennifer James said.
The two attorneys also blame "unfair" media reports for the controversy.
Police say man slipped out of cuffs, stole patrol car
A man stole a police cruiser Saturday after he was caught with another stolen vehicle, stolen property and drug paraphernalia, police said.
The man had been arrested and placed in the backseat of a cruiser. While officers inventoried the alleged stolen vehicle, they noticed the man had somehow slipped out of the handcuffs and was in the front seat of the patrol car, police said.
The man proceeded to drive off in the car, while an officer fired a single shot in an effort to stop the vehicle. The shot hit the cruiser's roof.
A perimeter was set up for several blocks around the vehicle, and the man was eventually arrested.

Toppled apple truck leads to hospitalized motorcyclistA toppled semitrailer hauling apples indirectly caused a second accident that put a motorcyclist into the hospital Saturday afternoon.
The semitrailer was travelling south on I-15 when it took the exit onto SR-6 at mile marker 257. The trailer, which was hauling 60,000 pounds of apples, took the curve too fast and rolled onto its right side, blocking all lanes of traffic, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.
The driver sustained only minor injuries.
Brigham City councilwoman files report against mayor, alleges assault
Brigham City Councilwoman Ruth Jensen has filed a police report, alleging Mayor Dennis Fife assaulted her by grabbing her arm during a heated argument after a meeting.
Police say an outside police agency will investigate Jensen's claims that Fife grabbed her by the arm and held her in place while yelling at her Wednesday night.
Fife disputes Jensen's account of the incident and says it's being blown out of proportion.
