OGDEN — The Ogden City Fire Department, FBI and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are investigating after a Molotov cocktail was thrown into a church building of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Ogden City police were called Monday at about 7:30 a.m. after maintenance workers noticed something had been thrown through the window of a church located at 1590 13th Street in Ogden. There was evidence of fire damage in the kitchen, according to Eric Bauman, deputy fire chief of the Ogden City Fire Department.

Bauman said the damage was confined to the kitchen and is estimated at about $1,000. The fire extinguished itself, he said.

The department is working with the FBI and ATF throughout the investigation, Bauman said, because the incident involves a house of worship.

He said there has been no motive established, but "police will be very vigilant in watching for any other activity."

Anyone with information regarding the incident can contact Weber County Dispatch at 801-629-8221.
