Sandra Yi reporting A road rage victim is near death this afternoon. Forty-three-year-old Frank Saucedo was shot in the head Tuesday night near the Smith's grocery store on Fort Union Boulevard.

According to Morgan Taylor, the driver of the car Saucedo was in, he was cut off in traffic by a dark green Toyota Tacoma pickup. Taylor says he verbally confronted the Tacoma's driver, and the next thing he knew a bullet shattered his back window and hit Saucedo in the back of the head.

Saucedo was taken to Intermountain Medical Center where he's still listed in extremely critical condition. His family delivered this statement this afternoon as they contemplate taking him off life support:

"We are heartbroken from the loss of our father, brother and dear friend. Frank was trying to lead a good life and always tried to help his friends in need. He was helping a friend to the grocery store when he became a victim of a senseless road rage incident. We hope that the person who committed this senseless crime will be brought to justice. This unspeakable action has taken the father of a young son, Cruz."

Police say all the evidence they have points to a random case of road rage. They did, however, confirm that Saucedo has a criminal history.

Eyewitness News also found out that Saucedo is a registered sex offender. In 1983 he was convicted of an aggravated sexual assault in Ogden.

The Department of Corrections tells us Saucedo has been in an out of prison on multiple parole violations. He was most recently paroled in February of last year.

But again, police don't believe Saucedo or his friends in the car, knew the shooter. They are still looking for the driver of the Tacoma. Witnesses say he's in his 20s or 30s with dark hair and a goatee.
