COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS — Utah didn't escape the holiday without fires flaring up during Fourth of July celebrations.

Investigators believe fireworks started a field fire behind a church near 2700 East and Fort Union Blvd. in Cottonwood Heights.

The flames started around 11:30pm in an area where fireworks are legal and quickly spread to an area where they are banned.

Firefighters say the flames came within 25 feet of a home, but they were able to get it under control before any structures were damaged. In all, one-half acre was burned.

Police are looking for the person who started the fire.
