Photo Courtesy www.visitsaltlake.com SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah (AP) -- South Salt Lake soon could have a soaring new city skyline.
The proposed "Market Station" mixed use development would rise 25 stories over the city and include up to 850 housing units, pocket parks, a grocery story, fitness center, day care and restaurants.
The project would be built near the 2100 South light rail station between State and Main streets.
It would dwarf the city's many mom-and-pop stores and the five-story Granite School District headquarters.
City leaders have already approved zoning changes and are expected to cast a final vote on the project tonight.
Councilman Shane Siwik says Market Station is the "wow factor" long needed in the city that will spur other development.
Estimates place the cost of the project at a half-billion-dollars. Construction could take up to seven years.
